Upcycled Earrings

Thursday, March 31, 2011

I am so excited to tell you about these earrings from our friends at Trashy Earrings. The earrings are stylish and affordable(around 7 USD) and come in a variety of colors. I have found that they are great conversation pieces too. The earrings are made of just what you think, trash! That is not the best part though. The earrings are made in Honduras by single mothers who would otherwise not have a way to support their family. Honduras continues to be a poor country with a high unemployment rate. The women are able to work from their homes while still caring for their children. They collect trash and packaging material, clean and scrub it and then cut it into strips before weaving it into their pretty earrings. It feels good to know you are helping people and getting yourself or the lady in your life a pair or two of these earrings is a great place to start. Head over to Trashy Earrings and receive free shipping on all of your purchases.

Happy Upcycling,
Jill

Oh, this makes me think of the acacia necklace I received for CHRISTmas! It’s a similar concept, made by widows in Africa. You can see more at http://www.visitingorphans.com. Oh, and Jill? You look lovely modeling these earrings!
